Helenvale United Cricket Club

One of the oldest townships of Gqeberha, the neighbourhood of Helenvale has over many years seen increasing population density without development of infrastructure. Combined with high unemployment, the area has become notorious for gangsterism and related violence. Seeking to get children off the streets and involved in development through sport, the Helenvale United Cricket Club (HUCC) was established by one of its inhabitants in 2001. Today the HUCC has five male and female teams and continues a development program for young talent. Without its own fields, the club is dependent on donations to fund equipment, coaching, organisation and transport for young players to compete in games around Gqeberha.
